8 Simple ways to soothe your soul.

Are you struggling with anxiety or stress? There are many ways that can help calm your soul, even if it’s for a moment. First, you need to know that you are not alone. We all have dealt with stress and anxiety at one time, considering all the events happening in the world. It would help if you made yourself busy always. If you don’t feel motivated even for a minute, I would say you are lazy.

Sometimes we feel the pressure to live like other people who live their highlight real on social media. We also want to succeed at our workplace, have a beautiful life, get enough sleep, eat healthily, care about the things we read in the news every day,  achieve our goals, have a fantastic social life, have a great marriage, and whatnot.

You could make the greatest mistake if you compared yourself to others; we all have our own life. Every single person has his/her own decisions to make and lessons to learn. I mean, our journeys are different.

Most people search for a connection with others, want to love and be loved, and grow as well. We look for answers to all questions in life and how to become successful. Unfortunately, when we find what we seek, we do not get satisfied. We still want more even after finding strength in the growth we experienced and the lesson we learned. Generally, there are too many thoughts running through our minds every single day that we can’t feel like it’s enough. Like we are contented.

We get these thoughts from the information we acquire from news, social media, movies, books, internet, and many more. The information is great as it speaks to us, and we love it. However, the information sometimes is useless as we can’t process it and put it into action. Our minds need some time to absorb the information. When you let the information sink in, you will be able to respond to important things when they come up- your body and mind will relax.

There are moments when you feel you just need time to be without anything else. These are the times you want to soothe your soul. Let’s look at some activities to help you do this:

1. Breath in and out.

Yes, breathe, that sounds simple, right? When you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed out, your breath possibly changes. It becomes shallow in your chest instead of being deep in your belly. You may need to count four breathing in, hold your breath for not less than four seconds, and exhale for another four seconds. Repeat this 5-10 times, and you will feel your whole body relax. These breathing techniques will help soothe your soul.

2. Positive Affirmations

Affirmations can be inspirational and can bring your mind back to your desired direction. Affirmations are a powerful means to improve your mindset day in day out, and they can boost your feelings of self-love. Some examples are;

  • I learn from my past mistakes.
  • I’m true to myself.
  • I know I can attain anything I set my mind to.
  • I believe in myself.

Whatever thing in your life you want to change your way of thinking on, you can always write down affirmations about it.

3. Express gratitude.

Gratitude is a great way to restart your mindset, and it is the best emotion to feel. Being grateful helps as you begin to see more positive things; you consistently focus on the positive things. Think about the great relationships you have, the great things you have achieved, your loved ones, friends, and all the amazing people you will interact with. Take a moment and be grateful for all the beautiful life experiences you’ve had- think about the countries you’ve visited, the amazing trips you’ve had with friends. Be happy about such memories and feel gratitude from your heart.

This might be hard, and I suggest you think about the things you have taken for granted. For example, be thankful for your job, your home, phone, PC, and whatnot.

4. Write something down.

Put down anything that comes to your mind; you don’t have to think hard about what to write. No one will ever see your write-up, so worry not. Trust me, writing is a great way of relaxing your mind. Your inner know-how is more than you think; you only have to trust yourself.

5. Take a break from your phone.

Switch off your phone for some hours every day, or even a whole day every week. Instead, meet with your friends, read books, or even go hiking. This will give your soul extra time to restore and reload. You will find this very soothing though it depends on your level of comfort. If you spend most of your time surfing the internet, this strategy will perfectly work on you.

6. Go for a walk.

Going outside and breathing fresh air is one of the most soothing things you can do to your soul. Take a walk just you and your thoughts- leave your phone at home, don’t talk to friends or listen to music.

7. Be organized.

Life has its way of putting pressure on you. Sometimes you might have a couple of things to do, and you can feel exhausted. Remember: you are the controller of your thoughts and emotions. When you are confused about what to do or what your goals are, re-organize yourself.

8. Think about others.

By thinking about others, you will stop thinking about your personal life for a moment and focus on what you can do to better other people’s lives. Do random kindness acts; you can find a charity organization that you will fully support. Helping in this way will expand your horizon and improve yourself.

Life is unforeseeable, one moment, you feel like you can deal with anything, and the next, you feel like everything is falling apart. This is a situation you can come out of by soothing your soul. Gradually, you will realize which strategy works best for you. Don’t try all at once. Pick something that suits you at the moment.
